New User Walkthrough - Page 6: Aliases
Aliases
- The Alias tab, is where we give our toons aliases.
- Why? Because it makes change easier.
- For example:
- Your tank is named 'Kannkor' and is a Monk. A year later, Monks are terrible, so you want to switch to a super amazing Guardian, and his name is, Shrek.
- Now imagine what your priest heals look like.
- Single target -> Kannkor
- Group Stuff -> Kannkor
- Heal1 -> Kannkor
- Heal2 -> Kannkor
- Emergency1 --> Kannkor
- Etc etc etc!
- You would need to manually edit every single one of those, on every toon! What a nightmare!
- Instead, we alias our toons.
- We declare when we use *Tank, we actually mean 'Kannkor'.
- When we switch to Shrek, we only have to edit this ONE entry and change it to Shrek. Then *Tank will be Shrek!
- We can even take it one step further. Lets say you swap both of these tanks out every once in a while, because you like pain.
- You can have TWO entries for tank.
- *Tank -> Kannkor
- *Tank -> Shrek
- This means if the character "Kannkor" is in the raid/group, it is used, if not, it will check if Shrek is in the raid/group. By having these two entries, you can have both tanks, and never have to edit anything if you want to switch back and forth!
- You will notice on the samples, they all say "EditMe". It's simply telling you, you need to enter in the appropriate toons name. Most Aliases are pretty obvious, such as 'Tank', 'MeleeDPS', 'Priest1' etc. These are all user defined. You can create almost anything you want.
